Amazon is one of the most visited sites on the web. They have built into their system some very powerful web 2.0 features that segue very nicely for niche marketers. This first post is about setting up your profile and beginning to use it.

And that was for 10 minutes work… Now its over 700 hits after a few days. Well, it almost seems like magic at times. I recently wrote a 10 minute post to a fairly unknown news story site. Within 6 hours it received 400+ hits and so far 7 people responded to my suggestion that they sign up (with my affiliate link) for a service that was still in pre-launch that is going up against Google & Yahoo context ad services.

I was listening to Pandora a really great web 2.0 website that lets you create your own music radio station to listen to… and they introduced this song to me. They lyrics really inspired me because it so perfectly resonated with what web 2.0 is all about and with what we are doing with this website and radio show.

It starts…

"You ask me to believe in magic

Expect me to commit suicide of the heart

And you ask me to play this game without question

Raising the stakes on this shotgun roulette"

            by David Leask

It reminded me of all the hype surrounding internet marketing products and programs that abound on the web. I have personally spend way too much trying to learn the ropes of internet marketing and building a career on the web. I eventually stopped believing in the hype and started questioning the game. The internet marketing community seemed to be a little bit "inbred". A bunch of slick salesmen selling slick sales gimicks to future would be salesmen.

Then I got a little bit of light and realized that I would never be satisfied unless I could express my real self and interests and have that be the motivating factor. Not just money. Primarily, I like to teach and share and I like to share what interests me and has helped me become a more alive, real and conscious individual. When you enter the web 2.0 world of relational "marketing", you find you can really be more authentic. That's important to me.

So now, instead of trying to hype a bunch of hypesters into hypeing up something I am trying to sell, I can simply express myself in an authentic way and build a foundation of trust, because I know that there are lots of people out there who have similar interests and they'll begin to stumble upon some of this authentic expression and commerce will be the result of the relationships that are built, not hype.
